RoboCup 2000 brought the fourth Robot Soccer World Cup to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. I competed in the 2D Simulation League with RoboLog Koblenz. Our team description paper, RoboLog Koblenz 2000 (External link), was written by Jan Murray, Oliver Obst, and Frieder Stolzenburg.

Through on goal difference

The Group 5 scores were wonderfully lopsided. RoboLog lost 0–20 to FC Portugal, the team that went on to become world champion, then drew 0–0 with Zeng00 and beat the Finnish team Oulu2000 39–0.

That left RoboLog and Zeng00 on four points each. The head-to-head match had been a draw, but RoboLog’s aggregate of 39–20 gave us a goal difference of +19, against Zeng00’s +3 from 21–18. We therefore finished second and progressed to the double-elimination finals. Zeng00’s team paper (External link) lists my friend Tomomi Kawarabayashi among its authors.

Sharif Arvand beat RoboLog 5–0 in Round 1A. The second loss, 5–0 against Wright Eagle in Round 1B, ended our tournament. FC Portugal later defeated Karlsruhe 1–0 in the final.

The recovered photographs

I was able to recover some of the original 86 photographs. All 73 surviving files are stored with this page, organised into session 1, session 2, session 3, and session 4. Sixty-one survive at their original camera resolution, mostly 1024 × 768, and twelve survive only as 150-pixel previews. Original modification times are preserved where they survived in an archive header; capture times are retained for preview-only files.
